Moments in Motion — Exploring Melbourne Through Street Photography

Earlier this month, I led a relaxed Street Photography Walk through the laneways of Melbourne, where we explored light, timing, and composition in the city’s ever-changing rhythm. These walks are among my favourite workshops — a chance to slow down, observe, and capture everyday life as art.

We began at Flinders Street Station, weaving our way through Degraves Street and the colourful murals of Hosier Lane. The city put on its usual show — trams, buskers, rain reflections, and hidden cafés full of character. Each participant was encouraged to focus less on technical perfection and more on intuition and storytelling.

Throughout the morning, I shared tips on how to anticipate moments, use natural light to your advantage, and approach street subjects respectfully. It’s always rewarding to see how differently everyone interprets the same scene. That’s the beauty of street photography — ten people standing in the same spot can produce ten unique perspectives.

We wrapped up the walk with a coffee and image review session, discussing composition and post-processing approaches for bringing out the emotion and energy of the street. I came away feeling inspired by the creativity of the group and reminded why I love sharing photography in a community setting.

I’ll be announcing more Melbourne-based workshops soon, including twilight street sessions and weekend urban architecture shoots. If you’d like to join, use the form below to sign up to my newsletter to be notified about future workshops..
